To help us help you faster, include your iPhone model, iOS version and the app version. You'll find all three in Chasing Salt under Settings > Help & Support > System Information.

Getting started

How do I start tracking a symptom?

Open the Symptoms tab, choose from the common dysautonomia symptoms or create your own, then tap it any time to log an episode. Only the time and severity are required; everything else is optional.

How do I create a goal?

Open the Goals tab and tap the add button. Choose a simple done/not-done goal, a goal you complete a number of times, or one with an amount and unit, and set it to reset daily, weekly or monthly. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence you can also type the goal in your own words, like "Drink 120 ounces of water per day."

Do I need an Apple Watch?

No. An Apple Watch adds heart rate, HRV, blood oxygen and other data to your insights, but every core feature works without one.

Pressure alerts

I'm not getting pressure alerts.

  • Check that notifications are on in Settings > Notifications > Chasing Salt.
  • For alerts when the app is closed, set location to "Always" in Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Chasing Salt. If you'd rather not share location, set a manual location in the app's settings.
  • Make sure Background App Refresh is on in Settings > General > Background App Refresh.
  • Low Power Mode can delay background checks.
  • Use "Send test notification" in the app's pressure alert settings to confirm notifications are working.

How sensitive are the alerts?

You can set the pressure-change threshold in Settings. After you've logged ten or more severe episodes with pressure data, Chasing Salt switches to a personal threshold based on the changes that have actually preceded your symptoms.

Apple Health

Some insights say there's no data.

Those reports need Apple Health data the app hasn't been allowed to read, or data your devices don't record. Open the Health app, go to Sharing > Apps > Chasing Salt, and turn on the categories you want to include. Some data, like VO₂ max, walking steadiness and wrist temperature, requires specific iPhone or Apple Watch models.

Your data

Where is my data stored?

On your iPhone. We don't have servers that receive your entries, and we can't see them. Your data is included in your iPhone's iCloud or computer backups if you have backups turned on. See the Privacy Policy for details.

Can I share my data with my doctor?

Yes. Go to Insights > Clinical Summary Export, choose a time range and tap Share or Print to create a PDF.

Will my data move to a new iPhone?

Yes, when you set up your new iPhone from an iCloud or computer backup of your old one.

Subscription and billing

How much does it cost?

Chasing Salt Premium includes a free first month, then $19.99 per year (US price; may vary by country).

How do I cancel?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions > Chasing Salt > Cancel Subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date to avoid being charged. You keep access until the end of the current period.

I subscribed but the app still shows the paywall.

Tap Restore Purchases on the subscription screen while signed in with the same Apple Account you used to subscribe.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles all payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Requirements

Chasing Salt requires an iPhone running iOS 26 or later. Describing goals in your own words requires an iPhone that supports Apple Intelligence.
